200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

The ShivaShakti Yoga Teacher Training Course is a comprehensive Yoga Alliance-approved 200-hour level program in Maine. The course is designed to initiate students onto the path of yoga and prepare them to teach others. The program offers a strong foundation in asana, concentrating on alignment, vinyasa (flow), strength, and breath. ShivaShakti Yoga is a yoga of hard and soft with asana classes varying from physically vigorous Vinyasa flows to softer and more gentle classes. Emphasis is placed on the development of the student’s personal practice in addition to teaching methodology and its practical application. Classical yogic philosophy is interwoven throughout the program, drawing on Vedantic and Tantric beliefs. Students receive a thorough education in Anatomy and Physiology as it pertains to a yoga practice.The program also includes daily yogic chanting and meditation. Upon completion of the course, students receive their ShivaShakti Yoga Teacher Certification and are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200. ShivaShakti School of Yoga is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance.

This training is offered in Maine in a weekend format, consisting of seven 3-day weekend sessions that meet monthly for approximately six months. This schedule is beneficial to those students who want to continue working and living at home while participating in the program. The month interval between trainings provides ample time for assimilation of the depth of knowledge being covered. In between the weekend trainings, students are expected to practice regularly, honing the skills and embodying the information covered in the training. This 200-hour yoga teacher training limits enrollment to 20 participants to ensure plenty of trainee-instructor connection time.

Techniques | 105 hours

Includes demonstration, alignment, practice and theory of ShivaShakti yogasana, pranayama, meditation, mudra, bandha, and kriya.

Anatomy and Philosophy | 25 hours

A scientific, hands-on approach to human A&P in regards to yoga practice. Includes the application of yoga on various systems of the body.

Philosophy | 30 hours

Lectures provide the trainee with a foundational understanding of yogic history, thought and methodology. Topics covered include Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Tantric Yoga, Kundalini, Vedanta, 3 Gunas, Nada Yoga, energy anatomy, Ayurvedic principles, Sanskrit, Mantra, etc.

Teaching Methodology | 30 hours

Various aspects of teaching asana, including demonstration, observation, correction, sequencing, cuing, voice, etc. The student will learn correct alignment, useful cues, and adjustments for all basic ShivaShakti yogasana. Sequencing of poses, classes for various ability levels, and oral presentation are included in this class. Creating the proper environment for a class and teaching ethics are also covered.

Practicum | 10 hours

Teacher trainees gain experience teaching under the guidance of the staff. Trainees practice teaching with partners or in small groups throughout the entirety of the training, receiving feedback from instructors and peers. Later in the training trainees practice teaching to larger classes. A self-care component is also included, offering students practices to cultivate a healthy lifestyle in support of their personal spiritual practice and yoga teaching.
